It is official and I have decided that the week before the auction is one of my favorite times. I am truly amazed by all of the inspired and talented people I am surrounded by.
Every year sometime in March the items start rolling into the office. A whole bunch of things are donated by various businesses and such, BUT! my favorite are the ones that are made by people. The ones that seem to be made with the biggest love and the very best intention. These includes the ones that the kids themselves have a hand in making. Each class is asked do a project that somehow involves the kids and something they are learning in that grade. I am literally blown away by what happens with these projects.
In the second grade a few things they learn are cursive and telling time. In fact the other day we were at my grammy”s house and Veda said that she could tell time but not on those “one kinda clocks” that are a funny shape like the one on the stove but she can tell time on the other kind. I am so proud! Anyway! The obvious donation to the auction for our second graders was a wall clock. One parent did a simple water color representing the seasons for the background of the clock. There are exactly 12 kids in the class (each one apparently has their own secret number) so they each made a number to be used on the clock. Then another crazy talented parent assembled and built the clock. It was the first thing I saw when I walked into the office this morning. It is beautiful. I have the intention to take photos of a few of these pieces of art once they are purchased. Don’t worry, I will share!
BTW the photo below is of the center pieces i should be finishing right now!
P.S. Veda keeps asking me why kids can’t go to the option…
